Responsibility

Sustainability

The general recognition that a change to more sustainable world order is necessary has created a momentum that continuously generates new climate-friendly solutions and opportunities in relation to reducing the collective climate burden. At Scandinavian Upholstery, It is our primary goal to focus on a continuous implementation of these new opportunities in our overall activities. We see it as our task to be thoughtful, innovative, and responsible in relation to future generations.

Give back to nature

Planting 10.000+ trees every year

To contribute to the balance of the global ecosystem Scandinavian Upholstery plants more than 10.000 trees every year to help compensate for our consumption of wood. The trees we plant are monitored by a certified forester.

Recycled fabrics

Made from recycled plastic bottles and recycled wool, our fabrics Argus, Vivus, and Mahoga are our take on the sustainable fabric choice. The Argus and Vivus fabrics are OEKO-TEX certified fabrics made of 100% post-consumer recycled polyester. The recycled polyester yarn is made from recycled plastic waste. The plastic waste is shredded into flakes by machines, then melted down into pellets and extruded into yarn. The production of recycled fabrics doesn’t use as much energy or resources as creating fibers and fabrics from scratch. The Mahoga is a sophisticated Italian fabric made from recycled wool. Our Argus, Vivus, and Mahoga fabrics are along with the rest of the fabric collection enhanced with additional backing for extended lifetime and undergo rigid testing to meet the high standards we impose on our designs and production. We ensure that an increasing selection of fabrics are Oeko-Tex® certified.

Code of Conduct

It has always been our priority to give our employees the best possible working conditions. Long before audits were made as we know them today, we engaged in the development of local communities by actively hiring minorities and supporting the training of refugees and students.

We are anchored in the Danish culture where everyone is equally valued regardless of background or position. Today, our production facilities in Ukraine and China are continuously audited against the amfori BSCI Code of Conduct to ensure transparency and good conditions for those who support and work for us and our suppliers.

Durability means sustainability

Our sofas are designed and manufactured with longevity in mind. To ensure the quality of our sofas we do not compromise on materials nor processes and conduct systematic testing of raw materials, as well as the finished products before they leave our factory. Our sofas are based on the knowledge we have established since we started designing and producing upholstery designs in 1978. As all sofas are produced at our own factory, we benefit from being able to directly control and assure our strict quality standards. In addition to our high internal standards, and to ensure we comply with the highest industry standards, we continuously subject ourselves to external audits of our manufacturing facilities.

Sustainable practices

We have always loved the simple and logical arguments for flat packing.

We continuously strive to reduce the impact our products have on nature. Having a global network of self-owned manufacturing facilities and warehouses means we can source and produce close to key markets, effectively reducing unnecessary freight and thus reducing our carbon footprint.

Each design creates a new challenge, and some designs are more suited for disassembly than others, but the ECO dimension is always an integral part of our way of thinking and designing. We have always loved the simple and logical arguments for flat packing, and we optimize our products’ CBM and SKU quantity where possible.

While ensuring the products have adequate packaging to endure transportation and storage, we use a minimum of plastic in our packaging and have changed to more sustainable packaging alternatives in recent years. We are not CO2 neutral, but we keep working hard to minimize our CO2 footprint.
